Intro to Printmaking
Printmaking in its essence is an indirect process. Artists create a plate or block that is used as a matrix to transfer ink to a piece of paper or other substrate. An introduction to printmaking includes technical instruction and practice in the basic materials, equipment, and processes of relief (linocut and woodcut), intaglio (drypoint, etching, and collograph), planography (lithography and monotype), and stencil (screenprint). Assignments will cover processes and techniques as well as deepening the conceptual progression of student’s work. The elements of drawing, painting, design and color theory will be applicable to this class and students will be encouraged to build upon their learning from other courses.
